I always get asked what to wear for family photos around this time of the year and I love putting together these idea collages of outfits for you all! Sorry men and children, I didn’t include your outfits because it’s really all about the ladies’ outfit, right? LOL
Tip #1: Female Lead in Neutrals – I think when doing any sort of family photos that will be used for Holiday cards, gifts or framing, it’s important to stick with neutrals and classic prints. All of the outfits that I put together for you are very neutral, which makes it easy to incorporate the other members of your family outfit by outfit.
Tip #2: Add A Pop of Color – Throw your man in a nice button up with a pop of color and a blazer. If you have kids, find that same pop of color to incorporate then put them in something you will get use out of all season long. Again, be sure to incorporate a classic print like tartan or buffalo plaid. Maybe even a touch of animal print, but be tasteful!
Tips #3: Themes and Current Trends – Sure, following current trends is great and themed outfits are fun, but do you want to look back at family pictures 10 years from now and cringe at the fact that you’re wearing a Led Zeppelin band tee tucked into a pleather skirt with fringe booties? Keep it classic, keep it neutral, keep it simple!
Well, what do you all think? Is this a guide you can get down with for family photos? I want to hear from you, what do you like to wear for family photos? And what have you worn that you totally regret? Comment below!
