What is the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale?
If you follow a bunch of bloggers on Instagram, you know that it’s almost time for the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale of 2019. Nordstrom is a popular department store both online and brick-and-mortar which has seemed to thrive beyond the slow death of most big box department stores over the last few years. A lot of people love Nordstrom because of their customer service, generous return policy, and their selection of many items including clothing, accessories, home items, and much more.
When is this sale?
July 10 & 11– Icon and Ambassador level cardholders can shop in stores and online.
July 12-18th– Early Access for Nordstrom Cardholders begins at 12:30pm EST.
July 19th-August 4th– Public Access for anyone to shop.
August 5th– Prices go back up to normal price
Why is it such a big deal?
I first began shopping the Nordstrom sale about 10 years ago and I can remember getting a Burberry Cape for around $200 and the catalog was as thick as a law school book. I think the sale has progressively gotten smaller and some items are not worth it, in my opinion, but it is still a good opportunity to stock up on some good basics.
Why do bloggers always freak out over it?
As bloggers, we freak out over it because it’s all new pre-fall and fall items at a discounted price. You know a blogger loves a sale, and especially one where you get to jump to the next season and take outfit pics with a sweater on in July 😛 Kidding, but really it’s just like any other sale that bloggers get hyped up about covering. As I’ve talked about before in the past, I do use RewardStyle, which gives small commissions for items purchased through my link and the Nordstrom Sale commissions aren’t any more than they normally are throughout the year, so there’s no real incentive there. For me it’s just fun to get into the hype and pick out my favorite items that I think are worth it.
How can I shop it early access?
To shop early access, you need to be a Nordstrom Cardholder. There is still time to apply if you want to get one before the sale to give you the early access. Nordstrom Card perks include earning 2x points per dollar at Nordstrom, Nordstrom Rack, Nordstrom.com, Haute Look, and Trunk Club. When you hit 2,000 points, a $20 Nordstrom Note gift certificate is automatically mailed to you or applied to your online account.
How to get Nordstrom Card?
You can simply apply online here. Nordstrom is giving a $60 bonus note (credit) to new cardholders.
What’s your game plan for the sale this year?
I honestly don’t really have a game plan. I plan on checking some things out in the store in person and then ordering things online that weren’t available in the store. I am mainly going for basics like white tees, leather jackets, and some of the jewelry. I got A LOT of fall stuff during last year’s sale and it just sat in my closet until November, so I don’t plan on getting as many fall items this year.
What are your must-have items that you’ve seen from the catalog?
There are a few things that caught by eye in the catalog.
I love this TopShop blazer and think it would be a great fall basic. I also love this croc Rebecca Minkoff cross body bag as well as the snake print Clare V. bag. I love how simple this tan TopShop dress is and I think it would be a great everyday dress for work.
This whole outfit is on point for me- I will definitely be purchasing this t-shirt (which I can tell says Merci Beaucoup) and this leopard pleated skirt. I’m not sure about the blazer but I will try it on in store and let you all know.
Le Labo makes some of my favorite scents and I recently purchased the scent Another 13 in London this past Christmas. This set combines Another 13 with their cult-favorite, Santal 33.
Pillow Talk is my all time favorite lipstick color by Charlotte Tilbury and this set is perfect if you want to try all of the Pillow Talk products.
You can view the online catalog here. Keep in mind this isn’t everything that will be in the sale, it’s only a select few items.
Are you going to be shopping and covering the sale this year?
Yes, I’ll be shopping and doing insta-stories, posts on IG, content in the LiketoKnow.it app (follow me on there “pipmegan”), and probably a couple of blog posts with my picks.
Key tips to shopping like a pro?
My #1 tip is to just order something if you think you might want it. Don’t think about it, just order it. Things sell out really fast and the restocks are random and at weird times. You can always return things, so just order something if you know you want it. Also, don’t fret if something does go out of stock because 99.9% of times it will be restocked at some point because people will return things.
