It’s that time of the year when people start gearing up for the summer travel. We love to go to Europe every summer as our “one big trip” of the year, and this year we are heading to Italy’s big city of Rome, the historic and beautiful Florence, and the bustling beach town of Positano and the Amalfi Coast. I’ve started to put together a few things that I’m ordering and that I already own to make some sort of a packing list and I thought this might be helpful to those of you who may also be traveling across the pond this summer. If you are going on a big trip this summer, I’d love to know where you’re headed, so leave me a comment in the comments section of this post!
Golden Goose Sneakers– I had a pair of GG sneakers a few years ago when they weren’t really popular and I remember thinking these are the most comfortable shoes I’ve ever owned. I wore them all around NYC and never once got a blister or sore feet. I just purchased a new pair and I will definitely be packing these for our EuroTrip to wear with cotton dresses and white jeans.
Flat Slides– During my experience in Prague and Budapest last summer, I discovered that the most comfortable sandals to walk in are floppy sandals like the ones above. I legit have purchased about 3 pairs of sandals like this for our upcoming trip because they are not only stylish and cute but very easy to walk around in. You can also easily throw them in your bag if you want to wear heels to a nice dinner and then have these to walk back to the hotel.
Nice Flats– I’m still undecided on these, but I’ve wanted them for a while now and I think they’d be the perfect “nice flats” option for some nicer dinners and things where I don’t want to wear the el cheapo floppy flats. I’ve tried these on before at a local store here and they seemed really comfortable. I’ll let you all know if I end up getting them and loving them.
Longchamp Expandable Tote– this is probably my best kept travel secret when traveling overseas. This Longchamp tote starts out looking like a regular large Longchamp tote, but when you want to add more items (aka when you’ve shopped too much and now you have no room in your luggage) you can expand it to double its size and stuff it full of items. When you stuff it full on its max expansion, it can get a little uncomfortable to carry, but that’s better than having to pay extra baggage fees to bring things home in a suitcase.
Packing Cube Set– I’m all about the packing cubes and I saw these cute ones that come in several different color options, as well as gold and rose gold! Packing cubes just make packing a lot easier for me and you can stay organized by keeping certain items in certain cubes. Packing cubes also allow more items to fit in your suitcase since they are all smooshed into a little cube. Overall they have been a win for me.
Megababe Deodorant– it’s hot, you’re outside a lot, walking a lot, and sweating a lot … don’t be that stinky person. I have fallen in love with Megababe Deodorant after using it for the past 6 months. I love the smell and it lasts a lot longer than other natural deodorants that I’ve used before in the past.
Portable Sound Machine– this is my absolute savior while traveling. I’ve totally been in a hotel before (especially in Europe) that had paper thin walls and you could literally hear everything your neighbor was doing. Or you could be placed in a room that overlooks a crowded and busy street. Trust me on this one, you need the portable noise machine. This one is light, small, and easy to pack.
Cross Body Zip Bucket Bag– I think this is a given, but you want to carry a bag that is cross body so you can wear it on the front of your body to avoid pick-pocket access. Also, it’s important to have one that zips on top as well as cross body. I haven’t purchased this bag yet, but it’s been on my radar for quite a while given that it’s stylish and very effective for wearing on the front of the body.
Festive Earrings– I love wearing little cotton dresses during the day when we’re sightseeing and walking around and to make the look a little more fun I always add a festive earring to the mix. I love these that are only $5.99 and they come in several colors!
Straw Hat– I am team no sun over here and that applies even when I travel. Of course I wear SPF, but I don’t want the sun blaring in my face when walking around or sightseeing, so I always pack tons of straw hats and sun visors to wear during the day.
Cute Sunglasses– Sunglasses are a must and I always pack about 3-5 pairs to have some options for eye protection. I tend to gravitate towards the bigger sunglasses because they cover more of my face and eye area and that means less sun can get through to my eyes and skin.
Here are some fun dress options that I’ve had in my cart for our Italy trip. I love the first one because of the pattern and the colors, and I think it would make a great dinner dress for a nice dinner. The middle dress is adorable and paired with some cute flats I think it would be great for exploring. The dress on the far right is so flowy and I love all of the twirlability (is that even a word) which will make for great pictures.
These are some basic dresses that I’ve purchased for the trip and you’ll never believe where they’re all from. The one on the left looks so cute and I cant wait to wear it with a straw hat and some flat shoes for a daytime look. The black one in the middle I could see paired with some cute wedges and some festive earrings for a dinner look at night. The white maxi dress on the right would be great for a day when it might be a little chilly and I could pair it with a straw hat and maybe a scarf.
And here are the shoes I was talking about … comfy floppy flats. Personally, for me, these seem to be the easiest shoes to walk around in all day when exploring and as long as they don’t rub your foot somewhere (easy fix: bandaids), you should be good to wear them. I always travel with bandaids, though, because you never know when you might start to get a blister from a pair of shoes you thought were comfortable.
Alright, so let me know what I left out? What do you all pack? Leave your suggestions in the comments below 🙂
