Oh Lawd … I’m sure you all are thinking, “what has she done to her face now?!?!”. Well, I’m here to tell you that I finally tried the super popular and celebrity favorite, THE VAMPIRE FACIAL. I’ve wanted to try this facial forever and never really knew the right place to go and get it done since there is SO much blood involved :P. I just felt like it needed to be a medical aesthetic office with a practicing physician. When my friends at Germantown Aesthetics posted about doing these on their Instagram I immediately made an appointment!
So the first question that I’m sure you all are wondering is what exactly is the Vampire Facial? First, let’s get the obvious out of the way- yes, it uses your own blood to smear all over your face (which is then microneedled in). However, the specifics get much more in detail about the what and the why.
Steps of the Vampire Facial Procedure
First, the physician or nurse isolates growth factors from the patient’s blood. Then, the provider uses a micro-needling device to create multiple micro-punctures –both driving the isolated growth factors into the skin & creating stimulus for tightening and rejuvenation of the collagen of the face. Next, the provider paints the growth factors onto the micro-punctures so that the growth factors soak into the tissue for further stimulation of tightening and skin rejuvenation.
The skin tightens, and glows with color, and scaring softens for a beautiful younger and very natural result.
1. Isolating the Magic from Your Blood
First, the physician draws your blood from your arm (just like getting a blood test done).
Then, using a centrifuge, the physician isolates platelets from that blood (platelet-rich plasma or PRP)–all within about 10 minutes in the office!
First, a topical numbing cream is applied to the face and sits for around 10 minutes so that there is no discomfort during the microneeding procedure.
12 tiny needles on the head of the SkynPen move up and down at 8 thousand times per minute to penetrate the PRP into the skin.
3. Coating and Soaking Your Face with Blood-Derived Growth Factors
These growth factors then activate multipotent stem cells already in the skin (tricking them into “thinking” there’s been an injury and new younger tissue should generated).
You actually leave with this layer of blood on your face and are instructed to leave it on for up to 4 hours so that it can really soak in.
So, what do you all think? Are you ready to get your vampire facial now? It honestly wasn’t that bad and if you can get over the whole taking the blood part, it’s no big deal at all. I do have to say that this is most definitely like regular microneedling on steroids. My skin is so glowy and tight and feels like new skin already and it’s only day 2! I’ve done regular microneedling in the past and the results have been nothing like this! I really think the PRP adds something extra.
