Thank you to Peppermill Resort for giving us a free stay in exchange for our honest review of the hotel.
We had the amazing opportunity to stay at Peppermill Resort, Spa & Casino over New Year’s weekend. I’d honestly only heard of Reno from one of my old favorite shows, Reno 911!, so I was excited to see what all Reno had to offer (that will be another post). One of the best things about Reno is that it’s literally 20-30 minutes away from Lake Tahoe, which makes it a wonderful home base to stay if you are wanting to do a little bit of skiing, a little bit of sightseeing, and have a fun hotel to come back to every night.
The Rooms
We stayed in the Tuscany Towers and the rooms were very reminiscent of The Palazzo and Venetian in Las Vegas. Everything had an Italian look and feel, right down to the soaps and hair products which were from Italy. Our room was plenty large for the both of us and had a huge king bed that was very comfortable to sleep in every night. We had an awesome view of all of the pool areas which, despite it being dead of winter, were packed every single day. I asked about this and someone told me that the whole property is heated by their own geothermal heating system so the pool is about 85 degrees during this time of the year.
The Food
We were there for four days, so we had to ability to try all of the food the Peppermill has to offer. We ate at their seafood restaurant, Oceano, which had delicious sushi. We also dined at their Italian restaurant, Romanza, which made me feel like I was in Italy eating at a little romantic slice of heaven. You all know that I love buffets, so of course I had to check out their full buffet, Biscottis, which had everything from french toast to Alaskan King Crab Legs. We also ordered room service multiple times which was always excellent and timely. I loved stopping at Biscotti’s Cafe in the mornings to get my coffee. Overall, the food was excellent and you literally never even need to leave the resort because they have you covered with every kind of food you can imagine.
The Little Touches
I was in awe when I learned of the little touches that The Peppermill does to enhance the guest stay experience, such as having an entire staff of photographers and videographers whose sole job is to travel the world and take cool pictures and videos that are then used to play in the hotel 24/7 on their many huge LED screens throughout the hotel. Every single framed photo you see in the hotel (there are hundreds) was an original photo taken by someone on their photography staff during their travels. They also have a “Selfie Screen” that allows you to press anywhere in the world and a huge still will pop up that you can pose in front of and pretend you’re at that destination. As someone who loves to travel, this was seriously one of my favorite parts and facts about the Peppermill. They value original content so much that they hired an entire staff to just travel the world and take cool pictures and videos – that is so cool to me and it definitely gave them some brownie points with me!
Spa Toscana
This spa was SO nice. I went in expecting a small little spa and boy was I surprised by this 33,000 square foot spa that offers everything from facials and massages to hot and cold plunge pools and a salt room. I got a Hydrafacial (which I will have a separate post on) by Suzanne and it was simply divine. My skin has never felt so soft and supple after receiving a facial treatment and this one was the best I’ve ever had. They also carry a line exclusively called Rhonda Allison that I’d never heard of, but my facialist was raving about it, so naturally I want to try some of the stuff now.
The Casinos
We’re not huge gamblers but we sure do love to people watch and the people watching here at Peppermill was on point. The casino areas were so large that you could easily find a quiet little area to play the slot machines if that is what you fancied. I do love a quick pull on the slot machine, so I played a couple for fun and didn’t end up winning anything. They have slots, table games, poker, and Keno.
Overall, we enjoyed our stay so much and I would go back in a heartbeat. Everyone was so friendly in the entire resort and we seriously did not have one bad meal at all- the food was excellent all around. I am already planning when I can go back again! Thanks again to Peppermill for this awesome experience.
