A lot of people will automatically assume that because I am a blogger and IG’er that I don’t work. We are in the age of people doing this type of gig as a full time career, so when I tell people that I actually work a full time job I am always met with looks of awe like, “wow, how do you get it all done”. I am here to tell you that while it is essentially like having two full time jobs, it’s really not as hard as one would think. I like being busy and it’s really like having the best of both worlds because I get to do my serious job during the day and my fun job at night.
I’ve honestly never been good with time management. I am one of those people that will go looking for something on their phone and find themselves an hour later stalking some random person on IG that I don’t even know. If I sit down to do something on my computer I pretty much have to not let myself go away from the page I am working on because the second I open a new tab, I am done for. If I don’t have structure and schedule I will completely go off into la la land. Having a full time job really helps me maintain every day structure in my life and makes it where I can segment my work during the day and my blogging at night.
We take all of my pictures on Saturday and Sunday nights. It’s become such a routine now that we don’t even plan anything on the weekends if we know that we have to shoot looks. I will then spend Sunday night scheduling my posts for the week and setting reminders on my phone to post to IG twice a day.
I would say the single hardest aspect of blogging to keep up with is the email situation. At the end of the day it is easy for me to write my blog posts or do my IG posts because I love doing that stuff, but the answering the emails and trying to work out brand deals and/or solicit for items to review is what I really have trouble with. With these deals and communications comes contracts and back and forth and at times it can be really time consuming to get it done in a day. Then I end up feeling like the flaky girl because it takes me like 3 days to get back to a brand that Suzy Q Blogger would have gotten back to in 30 minutes. I guess that’s the price you pay!
And then there’s the need to reply back to everyone’s comments on my IG and blog. Sometimes I am really good at developing a rhythm with commenting back, but other nights I just don’t have the time or energy and it will go days without a comment back … for that I am sorry! Just know that I always appreciate anyone taking the time to comment on any of my posts- it means so much to me!
Could I eventually see myself only blogging/social media-ing full time? Maybe … but honestly maybe not. I just don’t know. I really like structure and the security of having a set-in-stone job and paycheck/benefits. With blogging there are no benefits, no IRA, no retirement, no guarantees. But I guess that’s the gamble that some people are willing to take. Would you do it? Let me know in the comments!
