Allow me to walk out on a limb here (pun intended, get it?) and offer some advice to new bloggers who are looking to build their brand and be seen in the sea of fashion bloggers, bloggers, and pretty much everyone wanting to be IG famous. I’ve had a few people message me and ask me how I started getting paid sponsorships and collaborations and that could honestly be its own post, but I thought I’d start out by offering you all 5 pieces of advice to bloggers looking to grow their brand in the new year.
Create Consistent Content– this piece of advice is great for someone just starting a blog or IG or someone who is maybe stuck in a rut and needs a fresh start. I cannot stress this tip enough- post something every single day on your IG. Try to do a blog post a day during the week. People love consistency and when you are posting around the same times twice a day on IG or once daily in the mornings on your blog, people notice and they get used to that. It is always my goal to post something daily on PIPM and sure, there are days that I get busy or didn’t get a chance to write my post and end up skipping a day, but if you aim for consistency you will get into the routine of posting and it will be like second nature.
Make A Content Calendar– I cannot stress this enough, you have to be somewhat organized to figure out what you’re going to post about, what kinds of things you want to work on with brands, what videos you want to film, etc. etc. I always like to start out the month with an idea of big projects I’d like to accomplish for that month (ie: hair curling tutorial, get ready with me video, workout behind the scences), then I will break it down by what week that content is going to get photographed, filmed, or written so that I can then put each piece of the puzzle into the IG calendar (I say that loosely because it’s usually the night before when I pick out what I’m going to post on IG the next day), but it does help to have a general outline of how you’d like your month, week, and days to look for your content.
Working With Brands … Email Everyone and Anyone– so, you’re starting out and wondering how the heck do I even get paid to talk about something I love? How do I get free beauty products? How do I work with a specific brand on a campaign I’ve seen other bloggers working on? The answer to this one is quite simple and I think a lot of people overthink it … you just have to put on your detective hat and email the right people. Let’s say for instance you want to work with Mama Jo’s Organic Soaps (totally making this name up) and you go to their website where you find a general email for Mama Jo’s Soaps … it doesn’t stop there. Now you need to dig a little deeper and go to the ole google and try to find “Mama Jo’s Organic Soap Marketing/PR email”. Usually a person will pop up on LinkedIn for the bigger brands and then you can get creative guessing their email (it’s usually some form of their name @company.com). Type yourself up an email stating exactly why you want to work with them and how you will bring attention to their brand with your creative idea and boom- there you go! Sometimes you hear back and sometimes you don’t, but it’s really as simple as that!
Be Yourself and Be Nice – I know my IG and blog looks a lot different than they did, say, 2 years ago, but people grow and evolve and I made a decision that I wanted to make my IG look more professional and cohesive while still keeping it real on my instastories. I know some people are like blahhhhhhhh I miss your old IG posts, but really, I’m still here! I am just crazy and weird on my IG stories and not my IG pics. That being said, I looooooove chatting with people via DMs, comments, and all of that, and you all keep me in stitches for real. I know a lot of bloggers who will turn off the DM feature on stories because they “don’t want to have to deal with questions and comments”, but ladies and gentlemen, that’s what we’re here for! I am always available to talk to you about the latest conspiracy theory, Netflix show, murder mystery podcast, or anything you all want to chat me up about.
Make Connections– this one is one of the most important pieces of advice that I can give you if you are just starting out or wanting to grow your blog and social media presence. MAKE CONNECTIONS. Go to blogger events, go to fashion week, go on trips with other bloggers, join blogger FB groups, chats, text with other bloggers, basically anything you can do to become friends with people in the industry. Not only will you meet some awesome people and make new friends, but you will learn so much from other people and come away with a new skill set that you might not have thought of before if you hadn’t met that person. If you’re on the fence about going to a blogging conference my word of advice is to JUST BOOK THE TICKET. You can read about my first blogging conference by reading here. I highly recommend joining a blogging group like The Blog Societies to get more tips, tricks, and attend their conferences.
I hope you all enjoyed this post and as always, feel free to reach out with any questions 🙂
