It’s been a while since I let you all know what I’m watching, reading, and listening to, so I thought I’d share today since it’s a 3-day weekend and some of you all may be bored, road-tripping, or traveling. I’ve got 6 things to share today so get a cup of coffee and get ready to be sucked in with some new shows, books, and podcasts.
The Last Mrs. Parrish– you all HAVE to read or listen to this book if you get into twisted psychological thrillers like Girl on the Train and Gone Girl. This book is like a Lifetime movie on steroids. I saw Reese Witherspoon post it on her IG and immediately purchased it on Audible that day. I generally trust Reese’s book recommendations as she is a great scout for books that eventually turn into movies. Basically, the cliff notes version without giving you any spoilers is that a mysterious girl with a shady background becomes obsessed with a wealthy family and inserts herself into their life by befriending the wife. It’s filled with twists and turns and moments where you’re like, “ohhhhh snap”.
The Secrets She Keeps- along the same lines as The Last Mrs. Parrish, this book is a psychological thriller that, again, deals with someone who becomes obsessed with another person’s life and goes psycho trying to befriend the other person. It’s so funny because I’ve probably seen every single Lifetime movie out there and I am pretty good at predicting what happens in books like this and I was spot on with this one.
Good Behavior– I usually don’t like network TV shows, but this one is just too good not to share. Good Behavior is about a con-artist named Lettie who steals people’s things from hotels. She ends up stealing from the wrong person- a guy who’s a hit-man and they go on the run like Bonnie and Clyde. It’s funny at times and then really serious at others dealing with drugs, murder and emotional pain. I casually started watching this show out of boredom and was hooked with one episode. There are only 3 seasons so it’s an easy one to catch up on.
Black Mirror– OMG this show is so weird but so addicting- think of an update Twilight Zone that deals with modern societies and mostly our reliance on technology. It’s an anthology series meaning that each episode is a different story line than the others making it where you can watch any episode without being lost or confused. I don’t recommend starting with Season 1 Episode 1 because that episode is a little too weird and messed up for me, but I absolutely love Season 3 Episode 1 entitled Nosedive which chronicles a world where you are ranked via every social interaction that you have in your daily life.
Atlanta Monster– this is a new podcast for me since I just started it last week, but I’m already loving it. This podcast is from the creators of Up & Vanished (one of my absolute favorites), so I knew I had to give it a try. This podcast tells the story of the Atlanta child murders in the late 70’s and early 80’s.
Dirty John– y’all … if you’re driving this weekend you have got to listen to this crazy podcast. There is actually a Dateline special on tonight about this story and I cannot wait to watch it. Dirty John is about a guy who catfishes someone on an online dating website and lies about his life and profession and tricks the woman into marrying him. The things he does and lies about are insane and it makes you very scared for people who meet guys online!
Alright, so I’ve shared with you my current favorite books, shows, and podcasts, but now I need to hear from you! Leave me a comment and tell me what you’re listening to or reading right now.
